"There are no obscene words on any of the voice recordings given by me" -- Ranjan in parliament

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya mentioned in parliament yesterday (19) that instead of the word 'vulgar words' being used in voice cuts of Mp Ranjan Ramanayaka as published in newspaper reports ... it would be more suitable if the term 'lewd words' was used. The speaker said this when responding to a matter about privileges brought out by Mp Mr. Ranjan Ramanayaka in parliament. Mr. Ramanayaka questioned the speaker about reports
published in newspapers based on an issue that cropped up day before yesterday (19) in parliament where the speaker said that what could be found mostly in those voice cuts is 'vulgar words' than gossip. The dialogue that ensued between the two of the yesterday (19) in parliament about it which began with Mp Ranjan Ramanayaka's words as 'Hon. Speaker' ended up as telling speaker, 'Lokka'.

Mr. Ranjan Ramanayaka: "I got a little delayed in coming to this assembly by prison bus yesterday. I didn't here Hon. speaker saying something like this; but it is there in today's Lankadeepa which is a national newspaper. 'It is mostly obscene words that are to be heard in Ranjan's voice cuts. Considers handing them over to Mps'. I believe that you are there to protect Mps. I wish to say with great responsibility. During the recent past prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that a presidential commission has to be appointed to check about my voice cuts. I am counting my fingers waiting for it.

Sri Lankan public have a right to know about the pedigree, conversation and method of living of these people to whom they voted, gave car permits, given pension after five years and to whom current bill, electricity bill and luxury vehicles. The public can come to know about about all that across these voice cuts. There are two voice cut recordings of the voice of prime minister, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa ... one voice cut of former president, Maithripala Sirisena; a voice cut of Mr. S.B. Dissanayaka; two voice cuts of wife of cabinet minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage's wife, Asha Aluthgamage; two voice cuts of Mr. Wimal Weeravansha's wife, Sashi Weeravansha and one voice cut of general secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekera.

None of these voice cuts contain any vulgar words. But how is it that you or somebody in this House interpret the criterion of the word 'vulgar'? Speaker, I cannot accept captions given by newspapers in this connection. I also am sorry about it. I also shall inquire into it a little. Instead of saying vulgar words, it would be better to say lewd or unpleasant. Therefore I shall take the point as is necessary. Shall discuss with the relevant newspapers and then talk. Shall talk with newspaper firms and attend to those things.

Hon. Speaker .. the media is present even now. You said 'obscene' even now. 'Lokka' ... then that also goes on the media.

Speaker .. I must look into it. Should delve into it.

Mr. Ranjan Ramanayaka: Then it is a funny government. Then Sir you are now saying once again 'obscene'. That crowd will write that also now. Is the president giving ear to the the 'vulgar' words I am saying?

Speaker: Now of course gave ear to you, no. Alright .. alright I will speak with the relevant firms. Thank you very much.
