Mother - son die from Minneriya bus - car collision

As a result of a road accident which occured near 39th mile post along Polonnaruwa - Habarana Road  last afternoon (23) between a motor car and a private bus, the mother and son who were travelling in the motor vehicle died, Minneriya police say.

The deceased are 53 year old Punyakanthi Dissanayaka of Mailagas junction, Nagasena Mawatha,
Minneriya and 25 year old Kisal Manojaya Tennakoon .. mother and son, police say. Husband of the deceased lady has travelled in this vehicle and after receiving injuries he was admitted to Habarana hospital after which he was transferred to Polonnaruwa general hospital.

Mrs. Punyakanthi Dissanayaka who died had served as a teacher at Anuradhapura Swarnapali Balika Maha Vidyalaya while her husband, Mr. Jayampathy Tennakoon is attached to Anuradhapura municipal council in the capacity of a site supervisor, police say. All three of them have faced this mishap after having gone to injured Mr. Jayampathy's mother-town Polonnaruwa after which they were returning home to Anuradhapura, police say. It was revealed at police inquiries that the deceased son was at the steering-wheel at that time. Police further say that the private bus which collided with the car had carried a crowd going on a tour. The driver of the bus was taken into custody in connection with this accident.
