Baddegama magistrate Dhammika goes home ... because of Ranjan's leaked video
The judicial services commission mentions that duties of Baddegama magistrate Mr. Dhammika Hemapala who was involved in dialogues with parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayaka in parliament recently has been suspended. A mobile phone video of the discussion held with Ranjan Ramanayaka circulated in social media and it is understood that the discussion centred on judicial decisions.
Conducting discussions in this manner about legal cases within judicial system relevant to judges is
prohibited. The said discussion appears to a large extent that it was conducted at the judge's home while the taping has taken place in a clandestine manner, it was observed. Attorney general, Mr. Daula de Livera instructed the director of Colombo criminal division record statements immediately of all judges who have been revealed as having had discussions with Ranjan as with the former judge referred to here. The other two whose voice cuts which are revealed are high court judges Gihan Pilapitiya and Padmini Ranawaka. In the meantime, it is reported that necessary recommendations have been directed to president Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in connection with high court judge Mr. Gihan Pilapitiya too.
