As a result of an army truck colliding with Yal Devi train near Kilinochchiya railway station last afternoon (25), 6 soldiers have died while the condition of one soldier was reported to be serious.

A truck carrying 7 soldiers from the army hospital close to Kilinochchiya railway station had been moving in the direction of Kilinochchiya town. The truck concerned has collided with an express
train plying to Kankasanthurai from Colombo at the 55 junction close to the railway station, police say. It was reported that with this collision four soldiers in the truck have died instantly at the scene and three others were admitted to Kilinochchiya general hospital and another soldier has died and it was reported this morning that the second soldier too has passed away. What hospital sources said was that the condition of the other soldier who was injured too is critical. 

Kilinochchiya police further said that this accident has taken place with the truck-driver not noticing the train and that all soldiers concerned were those on duty at Kilinochchiya army hospital. Among the dead are three from the army medical unit and one soldier of the Sri Lanka national security battalion, police said.
