Udunuwara secretariat male - female employees who protest against circular ... come dressed in sarong, frock
Convenor Mr. W.M.M. Keerthi Gunaratna said that a decision was taken by two female officers of Udunuwara secretariat to go into action against a circular while all officers of the secretariat have come dressed in the normal customary manner to work yesterday (26). Both male and female officers attached to Udunuwara provincial secretariat have reported to duty in sarongs and trousers. What those officers there said was that even in spite of circulars been sent out requesting
that two ladies serving Udunuwara secretariat had reported for duty attired in sari, osariya upto now ... going beyond that which is stated in the circulars and had come dressed in burka and as a result all officers attached to Udunuwara secretariat have decided to come dressed in the normal manner. Its convenor Mr. W.M.M. Keerthi Gunaratna said that a protest was launched being dressed in casual clothes not because of those two ladies but because the said two ladies have acted beyond government circulars.
What Mr. Madhava Warnakulasuriya, secretary of Udunuwara secretariat told officers who came for duty dressed in normal attire was that just because someone was violating rules of the government circular, all others should not follow suit and that civil servants working beyond government circulars are not moralistic and therefore all officers attached to Udunuwara secretariat should report for duty from tomorrow itself dressed in a dress code compliant to government circulars. Whatever it is, amendments have been carried out by now in respect of the circular concerned.
