Student who tries to experiment what he saw on TV ... dies
A ten year old student of Teldeniya Giddawa junior college of year five having tried to imitate an incident of committing suicide which incidentally wa broadcast during daytime over a rupavahini channel last twentieth has tried to tie a knot with a piece of cloth on a beam in his grandmother's house and the knot had got stuck with the boy dying in the process. The magisterial inquiry was held by acting magistrate, attorney at law, Mr. Barnes Rambukwella at the location of the tragedy. Acting magistrate, Mr. Barnes Rambukwella instructed police to forward a report to Teldeniya court after the post mortem is carried out.

The grandmother of the deceased, fifty five year old grandmother gave evidence at the autopsy said that the father of the child concerned had passed away while on duty in the army and that he had three children. She further said that after his death, the child's mother has got married and that it is not known where she is. She stated that the victim had been watching a television programme on twenty second afternoon and had been playing on a bed in the house trying to imitate a scene of committing suicide which was broadcast on screen and he had subsequently tried to hang himself with a piece of cloth after which this tragedy has taken place.
The judicial inquiry into the death was conducted at Teldeniya basic hospital and it was instructed that the dead body of the student be handed over to the closest relative of his. Further inquiries were carried out by inspector of police of minor crimes division, Mr. K. Munidasa and a team of officers under instructions of Teldeniya police officer in charge, Mr. D.S. Padmakumara.
