Kirinda waters prey on father and two daughters ...mother hospitalised
Four members of the same family from Hatton have been washed away by the waters and from them, two daughters and his father have passed away yesterday two children (23), police say. The mother of these two children was rescued when she was being dragged away by the waters. She was then admitted to Tissamaharama basic hospital and after treatment was later transferred to Amparai general hospital for further treatment, a spokesman of Tissamaharama hospital said.
Those who died from this tragedy are, the father, Nuwan Wijeysuriya (33), the two daughters,
Nadeesha Minomi Wijeysuriya (4) and Esathma Natali Wijeysuriya (6), police say. This family has participated in a trip organised annually by a private bank in Nuwara Eliya. They had incidentally been trodding on the waters when this accident happened, it was revealed at preliminary investigations conducted by police. The crowd had stayed at a tourist hotel in Yala in the night day before yesterday (22) and had arrived last morning (23) to Kirinda beach and were preyed upon by a current in the sea, police say.

Of those deceased, the father's body was left lying at Kirinda hospital while bodies of the two children are at Debarawewa hospital. It was revealed at police preliminary inquiries that it was a businessman named Nuwan who had died and his wife presently undergoing treatment at Amparai hospital is an employee at a private bank. Kirinda police say that autopsy of all three deceased was to be conducted at Debarawewa hospital yesterday (23). Their relatives were expected to be present at the autopsy yesterday (23) and the autopsy is to be held after their arrival. Deceased Nuwan's mother was left at his residence and had gone on this trip and she has told that her son had telephoned her in the morning yesterday (23) telling her that they would be returning home in the night. Kirinda police are conducting further inquiries.
