Yesterday a police officer of Maharagama shot himself on the head with his official gun after an argument which flared up with his illicit paramour and the shooting has occured behind the police canteen, it is reported. 

The married lady living in Battaramulla who is said to be keeping an illicit connection has come to the police station that day by making an allegation that the said police officer was having an illicit affair with yet another woman. The constable under reference has been talking to her in the traffic
unit and subsequently an argument has flared up between the two. The constable has dealt some blows on her, it was found. After that incident both of them had gone behind the canteen and after a short while the constable has shot himself in the presence of the married lady concerned. 

About an year back, when this constable had been in service at Talangama Police Station he had come to know this lady from Battaramulla and has started an affair. Subsequently he has obtained a transfer to as a police constable attached to Maharagama Police traffic division and this illicit affair had taken place as a result of this transfer to Talangama Police. 

Because of this issue he had kept a distance from this lady. It was during this time that he gives life to a new connection. Police say that the married husband of Battaramulla lady was addicted to narcotics and is someone who is undergoing rehabilitation at Boossa camp. When the deceased constable had been maintaining an illicit connection with that lady, she has come to know that he was having a romance with yet another female and when she was questioning about it yesterday, it has by now been confirmed that the constable has shot himself in this manner in her presence. 

The deceased in this instance is a bachelor by the name of Dissanayaka Mudiyanselage Manoj Dissanayaka (29) from Anuradhapura - Thalawa. He has collapsed soon after he shot himself behind the canteen with his official weapon in front of the married lady. 

No sooner the incident took place, other police officers who rushed to the scene had dispatched the constable who had fallen down with serious injuries to Kalubovila Teaching Hospital and while on the way there, he has passed away, police say. Further inquiries regarding the incident are underway.
