Father gets the devil into him because mother buys three-wheeler for son and then sets 'hakka patas' for mother to lose her leg

An incident is reported of a husband who was taken into custody for having set up a 'hakka patas' for wife to lose a leg ... as she had helped her son to buy a three-wheeler. 

A 53 year old man from Bandewattha has been taken into custody because of this incident. Money collected by the wife was used to buy a three-wheeler for the use of her son and subsequently, the husband who had opposed her action has assaulted her on a number of days. Therefore as the husband would come drunk and resort to hitting her, she gone to spend a day in the home of one of
her brothers. 

When she has returned home, the husband has left the house. In that instance she has gone towards the rear of the house. It is mentioned in the complaint she made to police that when she thus retreated to the back of the house, a big burst was heard near her legs. She has further mentioned that at that particular moment mentioned above her right leg has turned into a mass of flesh accompanying the burst and thus was admitted to hospital whereby doctors had performed a surgery and detached a part of her leg. She complained that in this manner she has had to forego the part below her right knee. 

She mentions that she had to face this fate because of a 'hakka pata' set up by her husband. She goes on to say that she and her husband are employed in labour work in a garden and in addition her husband is used to kill wild boar by setting up traps and 'hakka patas' as well in order to sell the animals and that it was with the aid of such traps that she had to face this tragedy. 

In respect of the complaint lodged by the woman at Welipenna Police, the suspect was arrested. The suspect is expected to be produced before court under the charges of assaulting the wife and having made an attempt to commit suicide by setting up explosives.
