Police son of President's security, drives Defender in company of school pals ... causing fatal injuries to Borella Traffic OIC!

It was revealed at police investigations that the white-coloured Defender jeep which made a getaway by knocking the motor bicycle which OIC of Borella Traffic Police was riding at about 4.35 early this morning, causing grievous hurt to him belonged to the son of schoolgoing age of a police superintendent attached to Presidents security and his friends too had been travelling in it. By now the persons who drove the vehicle have been taken into custody. 

This vehicle which had been speeding from Bambalapitiya, Galle Road towards Colpetty had
collided with the motor cycle which the police OIC had been riding at Duplication  Bullers Junction. On that occasion this traffic OIC Sarathchandra was on his way on an emergency duty towards Colpetty Police, it is understood. 

When inspecting CCTV footage around the vicinity at the moment of the accident, after the motor cycle and the defender jeep had struck each other, the police superintendent's son who had been at the steering wheel has got down from the defender jeep and inspected the police OIC; but without paying any further attention has got into his defender and was seen going away, it is reported. It was further observed that at the moment of the accident there were four other individuals inside the defender. 

The officer who was seriously injured was hospitalised by others nearby. The defender which fled after causing the accident when turning towards Thummulla had been driven continuously even when red lights were on at traffic lights, it was revealed on surveys conducted later. Subsequently when police tracked across the number plate of the vehicle concerned, police were able to find the defender which beat a retreat this afternoon at a house parked in Battaramulla area. What police say is that was parked at the house belonging to the superintendent of police at 727, Pagoda Garden, Pelawatta, Battaramulla. It was further revealed that the said police superintendent was an officer who was attached to the security unit of President's security. It was also revealed that occupants of the vehicle were 4 persons together with the SP's son studying in a leading and popular school in Colombo. 

Under the above circumstances those who was driving the vehicle were taken into police custody. While it had not been the son of the said police superintendent; an inquiry is being conducted to determine whether it actually was he or not. 

Driving with excessive speed, causing an accident, fleeing after the accident, driving y violating traffic signals are some of the charges levelled against him; police news has reported. The police OIC who was subjected to serious injury is still under treatment at Colombo National Hospital in the intensive care unit and has undergone several operations, police say.
