Rumour tat Chamal or Nimal will be made Prime Minister?
Discussions which United National Front had with President last night became a flop because it was not agreed to grant Premiership to Ranil. As Sajith has mentioned that he is not willing to acquire the position of Prime Minister against his leader on this occasion, the UNP left no room for the President to go into an option.
According to the judgement of 7th, if in case the parliament is dissolved, there would be a necessity
of a Prime Minister for the country. However if the dissolution does not take place and it is told that the government be carried on right along, until the final judgement of the case is given on 12th, a Prime Minister would be necessary for the country.
Whatever it is, it is a difficult task for a single person to rule the country by keeping the position of President and Ministers. The productivity too would be low. As for these reasons the President will be motivated to appoint a Prime Minister or cabinet at the earliest.
This is how Dr. Wijeydasa Rajapaksa has explained this situation: "It is not inferred by yesterday's verdict that the Prime Minister and cabinet has been abolished. Only a temporary interim order has been issued. In this instance the President has been left with two options. One is to function activities of the government without a Prime Minister and cabinet. The other is to dissolve the present Prime Minister and cabinet and to appoint a new Prime Minister and cabinet. The President on that occasion is not able to appoint Mahinda Rajapaksa once again to the position of Prime Minister when appointing a new Prime Minister. But other ministers who functioned in that cabinet may be appointed as new ministers.".
There is news to say that President has an idea of granting the position of Prime Minister to someone else in the Alliance other than Mahinda. As such, there is a great possibility that Chamal Rajapaksa or Nimal Siripala de Silva stand a chance of securing the post of Prime Minister, reports are published. it is possible that a crisis could flare up in parliament once again with such an appointment. However, political news say that the President may go for a decision like that as an option to get over the crisis that he is trapped in.
A special seminar is expected to be held this afternoon (4) in Colombo and the President is expected to make a special address on that occasion.
