Rumour of Mahinda quitting his position as Prime Minister?
Because of Supreme Court enforcing an interim order withholding operations stated in the gazette released dissolving parliament, though a majority had no confidence as a result of calling parliament tomorrow most unexpectedly, the Mahinda camp has sustained a shake up, political sources said.
Rumours spread around during the past few days that Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed to the position of Prime Minister according to the invitation of President Maithripala and according to his plan and therefore Mahinda wanted to take steps to haul responsibility of the burden of these wrong
decisions on President Maithri himself, it is said.
If Mahinda was to go in for a vote to engage in a speculation in parliament at this decisive hour, he would without doubt be defeated and that under such conditions Mahinda's future political future would be tarnished with a black mark; his close colleagues had pointed out to him. As such, what Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna says is that in this case the best solution that could be offered to him is to relinquish his position as Prime Minister which suggestion Mahinda is very likely to decide today the 13th. An emergency cabinet meeting has been called this night and a decision is to be arrived at in that connection, it is understood.
If Mahinda is to quit in this manner, the new ministers too would give up their portfolios and the Maithri - Ranil regime would come up once again. Whatever it is, what President Maithripala Sirisena said earlier was that if Ranil was to become the Prime Minister once again, he would not remain in his seat even for one hour.
