having tried selfies!

According to investigations carried out in connection with the death of Dhammika Sampath Kuruvitage (32), an external student of Kelaniya University he had gone with friends and has tried to take selfies without exercising precautions, which has been determined as the cause of the accident.

The hometown of Dhammika is Kalwana in Aranayaka. He had been following a degree on Mass Communication. Dhammika was someone who loved excursions. He had in fact been going on trips
such as this twice or thrice an year and on this particular occasion he had gone to see Asupini Ella situated in Aranayaka in the company of three of his friends for the weekend holidays on the 14th. Dhammika's friends had constantly used to play jokes on him because of his uncontrollable fascination to to take photographs.

On this particular day Dhammika had captured many a photo of Asupini Ella and surrounding areas and then the sudden thought occured to him of taking a photograph of Asupini Ella close to a stream with his image too appearing in it. Dhammika however did not even for a while give thought to the risk involved on that occasion. He had thus handed over his camera to his friends asking them to click a photograph so that the depth of the beauty of Asupini Ella was portrayed. "Machan ... click a pix of me with the depth of the Ella appearing beautifully". As soon as he uttered those words to click the photo, at that very second instantly Dhammika had lost his footing and had fallen about 100 metres down from Asupini Ella, in front of the eyes of his friends. So the selfi he anticipated only became a dream for Dhammika! He had in fact lost his footing when he was about to hand over the camera-phone to his friends.

His friends who could not even believe what happened so instantly to Dhammika were drenched with sweat. They yelled out Dhammika's name for the whole town of Kegalla to hear ... cried and wailed. Nobody would ever experience such a heartrending moment in his or her life. That horrendous sight actually created a shock in the minds of his friends. Later his body was not found at once. His corpse was recovered two days after at a spot where water is channelled to generate hydropower. Thus, a risky act found its finale in that manner.
