Minister Kabir's relative, owner of BMW which fell into Thalawathugoda lake having knocked 2 vehicles ... missing!
Towards dawn last Saturday a BMW which was being driven at somewhat of a hectic speed proceeding from a parking lot in a nearby nightclub adjacent to Keels Supermarket in Thalawathugoda had knocked on two Axio and Corolla-type vehicles and subsequently had fallen into the Kimbula Ela
closeby; not being able to control the speed. Though none was hurt as a result of this incident, all 3 vehicles that were involved had suffered damages.
Though both owners of the 2 vehicles had lodged a complaint a short while after at Talangama Police, the Muslim national alleged to be a relative of Minister Kabi Hasheem and who had driven the said BMW had not turned up at the police station until last evening (18). At the moment of the accident he had abandoned his vehicle and had fled in a three-wheeler. The police had managed to find out that he was a car sale owner residing in Madiwela. A team of police officers has been directed to secure a statement from him.
A lady general manager of a private finance company and her husband had been travelling in one vehicle involved in the accident while an attorney-at-law who was on his way to drop his child to a private class had been in the other vehicle. Both vehicles were badly damaged.
There had only been a garage number on the BMW which vehicle fell into the lake and it is understood that there are only 3 vehicles of this type in Sri Lanka. A person who had identified himself as an accountant of the person who was responsible for this accident has turned up at the police station and had volunteered to settle the cost of damages and had promised to do so today (19), police have stated.
The said BMW leaving from the parking lot in this nightclub day-before-yesterday around 6.53 in the morning day-before-yesterday at a high speed and how some people were running behind it was marked on CCTV footage of Keels outlet. Minister Kabir Hasheem accepts the fact that the owner of this vehicle is a relative of his; but says that he is not connected to his staff or ministry or political activities. He has also stated that he has not made any influence in connection with this incident as such. Talangama Poliice conduct further inquiries.
