Heaviest baby of Sri Lanka (11th in the world) born in Balapitiya

The birth of a baby with the highest weight so far in Sri Lanka was recorded from Balapitiya yesterday. This baby boy recorded a weight of 13.1 lbs (5.94 kilos). According to Guinness Records, this toddler has entered the Guinness Book of Records to be among the 11 babies with the biggest weight so far born. Prior to this, 2 babies recording a weight of

22 lbs. were recorded as having been born in America and Italy while 1 baby weighing 19 lbs. 2 babies weighing 17, 3 babies weighing 16 and 2 babies weighing 15 lbs. had been born.

It was Horawala, Hamburugala Nadisha Nilmini who was the lucky mother of the baby mentioned. She is 28 years of age and the baby concerned is supposed to be her first child. The baby was born after a Cesarean Operation conducted at Balapitiya Base Hospital by Consultant Doctor Kapila Withaanachchi and Damitha Nalin and they mention that they were aware that the increase in the baby's weight was noticed even by 6 - 7 months and advice was given and arranged for the baby's birth to be performed successfully. The doctors have also stated that this operation is an unforgettable experience in their medical life. The mother as well as the baby are presently in sound health.
