"Those days I controlled Dengue by tying officers to trees!" -- Mervin Silva

Former Minister Mervin Silva has after sometime mentioned in Kandy that a new political party would be instituted by him in order to solve the problematic social situation prevalent in the country and that when taking into consideration the period of how he controlled Dengue during his time it is nowhere in comparison where the incumbent regime is
concerned.

He had in addition remarked that by now the Sinhala Buddhists are being subjected to various forms of victimisation and that Sinhala bakery-owners who lived in the North and a large number of others have had to leave those areas. The former Minister who paid homage to Maha Nayaka Thera of Asgiri Maha Vihara mentioned that he had analysed well the problematic situation in the country right from the start and because of the frantic behaviour of certain Ministers the common man has been subjected to suffering.

As a consequence, he expressed in the presence of the media that he would be forming a new party by the name of Janatha Pakshaya and that he would be getting the registration in the near future.

"I was not given an opportunity for nominations at the Presidential Elections. I asked President Mahinda Rajapaksa as to why I was not given a chance to come forward for the election. Then what he said was that it was done by Basil. So didn't he have a backbone to push me forward for the Presidential Election? What wrong have I done? I did tie an officer to a tree as an example because Dengue was increasing. Because of that the spread of dengue was controlled in my political seat. Did I sell drugs? Did I engage in rackets? No ... thinking that I would get bigger number of preferential votes the former Minister Basil Rajapaksa didn't give nominations to me. That's why I am like this.

At moments when it's necessary I'll come forward there. No Ministership is necessary in such instances. I came to know that there's no opportunity available to hoist flags in Kandy for the Sri Dalada Maligawa perahera mangalya which happens to be the 'mudun malkada' of Buddhists the world over. I then decorated the entire city of Kandy with flags. Nobody said anything against me as such.

There's no point in living by resonating 'Wewa ... dagaba ... gama ... pansela'. All these things should be protected. If not for the 'cheevaraya' and 'Maha sangha' the 'wewa, dagoba, gama, pansela' of this land will not remain anymore. If anybody opposes this ... it's something that even the gods would be angered. It cannot be allowed for this country to be divided just by talking about 'sanhindiyawa'.
