Where did Sergeant Major Jayamanna who died saying "It was I who killed Lasantha" meet when he went to Colombo the previous day?

Was it because of Sergeant Major Jayamanna of the Intelligence Unit of the Army hanged himself after leaving behind a letter which said"It was I who murdered Mr. Lasantha Wickramatunga" really connected to this killing or was is it because of somebody's instigation? The police have commenced a wide-scaled investigation to find whether he had committed suicide as he has so far not been subjected to any suspicion.

The day before he committed suicide he had come home from Colombo around 7 in the night. The

police have been able to uncover vital information across signals from the mobile phone as well as with whom he kept company with. The crime detection team which has already arrived in Kegalle are devoting special attention and are engaged in investigations regarding this.

The deceased Sergeant Major's final rites were conducted day-before-yesterday (16) at Puwakpitiya General Cemetery. Though arrangements were made to conduct the funeral yesterday the 17th, it was conducted before the date arranged by his wife who was to return from abroad.

It was one Milinda Udalagama whom he had asked to be released as stated in the letter written by Jayamanna before he had committed suicide; but it is one Prem Ananda Udalagama who has been taken into custody on suspicion over the murder of Lasantha Wickramatunga. It has become a question as to whether both of them is one individual and a doubt is raised as to whether the deceased would do something like committing suicide without knowing knowing proper information about the person in custody. It was Prem Ananda Udalagama, a sergeant of the Army Intelligence Unit who was taken into custody on suspicion over the Lasantha Wickramatunga killing as well as assaulting the former Editor of the 'Rivira' Newspaper sometime ago.

The handwriting of the letter written by Jayamanna before committing suicide has been confirmed by his son Asitha Lakmal Jayamanna as that of his father at the inquiry into Sudden Deaths held at Kegalle General Hospital. However, the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths had forwarded the handwriting of the letter to the Government Analyst. Though the deceased had retired in the year 2007, he was linked to the Lasantha murder in the year 2009 and information has been revealed that it had happened according to an external plan or setting executed beyond Army orders. Prior to this, the deceased has been taken into custody on suspicion in relation to the Millenium City incident and happened to be a suspect arrested and was among the 9 suspects including Udalagama. Based on those factors, there is information to say that he is an individual who is channelled for activities such as this.

It was a three-wheel driver in the neighbourhood who initially identified the manner in which how the deceased had taken his life. He is 37 year old Rukmal Gunatilleka. This is what he spoke about it: "I address the deceased as Raja Maama. He is a neighbour of mine. These people frequently summon me to attend to domestic work. To go in my three-wheeler somewhere. Last 11th he was not at home. Sriyani, a sister-in-law of Raja Maama called me and told me to take Raja Maama's son to school. In the meantime Raja Maama spoke to me and asked me to escort the child three days to school. He also said that he would not be able to come. He didn't tell me where he is. As such I took the child to school for 3 days. On the day of the incident (14) too I took the child to school. After that when I was getting ready to go on a hire Raja Maama spoke to me at about 8.21 in the morning and said, "Puthe ... come to our place within another 6 or 7 minutes. I went near the house at about 8.30 and I saw that the doors and windows were ajar. I then opened the door and went inside. The bedroom door was closed. When I went forward and what I saw was that he was hanging from the roof near the dining table. I rushed out and shouted out and told this. The neighbours rocked in there. The Police Emergency Unit (119) was notified".

This is what the deceased's eldest son Akitha Lakmal Jayamanna had said: "It's my father who has died. My mother is Rajapaksage Nilanthi Rajapaksa. She serves in Saudi Arabia from two and a half years in a school there. I have two younger brothers. We all were living in the house at Epita Gederawatthe down Denipitiya Road, Karandupana. I am following a course at a private institute in Kadawatha. My eldest younger brother is Dilisha Lakmal Jayamanna. He's studying at Keggala Maha Vidyalaya in the 10th Year and youngest brother Nadeesha is studying in the 3rd Year. The three of us were living with father in the house. My father was a Sergeant Major in the National Intelligence Unit at the Army and after retiring was serving in the private security service. He was arrested in the Millenium City incident and was remanded for about one month. Later he was released from the case after 3 years. Later after finishing his services with the Army he went on retirement.

Father used to take liquor and cigarettes in moderation. We spent our time happily with father. The day before (13) this incident Loku Malli had to go from the school to India for a competition.  Our father attended to all the work in that connection. He went to Colombo and returned around 7.30 in the night. After coming he prepared everything necessary for Malli's trip to India. At about 3.00 on 14th morning he escorted Malli to school and came back. He spoke to me well. Last weekend I was in the company of my father. There was no despondency in him ... was very happy. Because father was not at home during the past few days, Podi Malli was stationed at Sriyani Punchi Amma's place and he went to school from there from the 11th onwards. The other brother doesn't know anything about this. When I left in the morning father was all alone at home". Further investigations about the incident are underway.
