"We have (un)successful players who earn a salary of 57000 for one run! - Minister Dayasiri exposes
Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera who is prepared to take special steps over the Mafia that operates within the Sri Lanka Cricket Board revealed the reason to the BBC yesterday and added that if anybody comes to know about the payment made to some unsuccessful players they stand a chance of being stoned when they come back once he is given out.
"There's one player whose earnings last year totalled up to Rs. 57 million. When looking at the runs scored, the Cricket Board has paid him Rs. 57,000 for one run. Another player has earned Rs. 73 million. Rs. 26,000 is being paid for a single run alone.
There are other players ... they don't score runs. But every day they earn 50, 75 million. Players should know to go for performance. If the audience know about the earnings of those who draw salaries like this, it is possible that that they would be stoned after that player loses his wicket and returns. If there's no methodology where payment is made according to performance ... this won't be taken notice of. Whether batted well or not the payment is given no. Those in the Cricket Administration Board are representatives of cricket clubs. What they try is to put more of their own players, here. This happened in the past also". The Minister says that under this situation a new payment scheme would be introduced and under these circumstances it would be possible to earn in relevance to the skills or performance shown by the player during the year.

Arrangements have been made to classify the contract monies paid to players into 5 categories in the forthcoming year and to introduce a special allowance based on the performance. According to the earlier agreement, a player was paid $7,500 for a Test match with relevance to the National Cricket team. According to the new agreement it has been brought down to $ 5,000. In case the team is victorious, the payment made to a player goes up to $ 10,000. In addition, a batsman who scores a century in a Test match or international One-day match and a bowler who clinches 5 wickets or more stands the chance of earning an additional $ 5,000. However, in the case of a 20 - 20 match, the bonus by way of payment for such feats would be even more. It is that it has been decided to pay $ 7,500 for a batsmen who scores 100 runs and a bowler who gets 5 wickets or more at a One-day international game. Further, the payment of $ 3,000 at a One-day international match and $ 2,000 at a 20 - 20 match made to a player paid in the previous year stands unchanged.
