Arjun Mahendra should take responsibility directly on Central Bank Bond Scam - COPE Report

MP Sunil Handunnetti the Chairman of the COPE Report relevant to the Bond issue brought forward the Report this morning in parliament and what he said on that occasion was that former Head of the Central Bank Mr. Arjun Mahendra should hold him responsible directly over the Sri Lanka Central Bank Bond transaction and as such legal action should be
enforced with regard to officers responsible, as directed by the COPE Committee Report. 

Although an agreement was expressed in relation to the recommendations of members of the committee, it was expressed that there is a division. He further stated that 9 members had rejected the Report which were devoid of footnotes when the final report was prepared and that the Report which contained footnotes were rejected by 16 members. 

The COPE Committee has recommended that since there had been basic irregularities observed in the Central Bank Bond transaction, that loss sustained has to be recovered from Perpetual Treasuries Company belonging to the brother-in-law of former Central Bank Chief Arjun Mahendra. The parliament still proceed explaining this Report at length.
