Joint Opposition to launch a fund to pay compensation to"Tiger" s family who was shot dead by a Major when trying to escape
An army Major Wimal Wickrema ,18 years ago when in the battlefield with the LTTE had shot an LTTE member who had been captured and who had tried to escape. The family members of the LTTE member had requested compensation amounting to rupees twenty lakhs which the court authorities
had authorised him to pay.
The working committee of the joint opposition have come forward to pay this compensation money on behalf of the Major Wimal Wickrema.
In this connection it is learnt that the collecting this sum of money has commenced today the 13th instant at 7 am from near the Anagarika Dharmapala statue in Homagama.
This sum had been ordered to be paid before the 15th of October.If this rupees twenty lakhs is not paid the Major would be imprisoned.The working committee of the joint opposition desire to collect this sum to avoid him been imprisoned.This was added by the Member of Parliament Bandula Gunawardena.
The money collected would be deposited to the Major Wimal Wickrema;s account at Peoples Bank Bandaragama.It is reported that if the members of the joint opposition fails to collect this sum the balance would be collected from the Members of Parliament of the joint opposition and save the army Major from imprisonment.
