Security guards with weapons to prevent stone-throwing incidents

The reason for the death of the Deputy Director of Education of North Central Province recently was an incident of stone-throwing at the train in which he was travelling. The Department of Railway has decided to take precautions in this respect by way of security measures after this

scene.

Under these circumstances security measures have been launched already. As a preliminary move these security guards would be deployed armed with weapons only for the night mail and intercity trains and it is proposed to affiliate these guards to cover other areas as well, later on. Just 2 days after this process was launched, 7 incidents of stone-throwing have been reported and it has been possible to arrest some fisherman from the Moratuwa area in one such case. On another occasion it was a group of young men from Kollupitiya sea beach area who were taken into custody.
