Son living in the house who demanded 7 lakhs from father by subjecting own sister to abduction
An incident is reported from Gampaha where an 18 year old boy had got round his 14 year old sister to have her abducted because of his dream of making a musical instrument for himself and asking for assistance from his father for that purpose did not materialze. However he was finally caught when he had demanded
the ransom money from his father.
This suspect Madhusankkha Peiris living in Kehelbaddera, Gampaha after having gone to see a Super Star Show had as a consequence developed a craze and as a result had after that been endlessly pestering his father for money because of the desire that welled up within him for the purpose of making a musical instrument. When this attempt had failed, he had then approached the mother for the 7 lakhs he wanted, which too had proved futile. Later the boy had thought of a strategy and thereby had after discussing with his sister sheltered her in the house of one of her friends.
Subsequently, he had gone towards the backyard of his house and by disguising his voice given an anonymous phone call to his own father saying that the latter's daughter has been abducted and to provide a sum of 7 lakhs if the daughter is to be released. The father who was the recipient of this anonymous call after hearing of the incident of his daughter being abducted had been thoroughly stirred and as a result become sick. He had however managed to lodge a complaint with Gampaha Police about the disappearance of his daughter. It is something of noteworthy interest that this very own brother of the girl, the ransom-seeker, had accompanied the father to lodge the said complaint. Towards night the father had suffered from a heart problem and the daughter who then was hiding in her friend's home had come to hear about the father's condition and her heart had melted. She had then told her friend that she wanted to return home because of the father's health condition and had thus returned home in a vehicle secured with the aid of her friend.
The police who conducted investigations over the incident and because of the suspicion they had developed in the process were able to figure out that sheltering the girl was but a conspiracy of her brother. After investigations both the elder brother and the sister were taken into custody after which they were produced before Gampaha Magistrate's Court. The suspect son who abducted his own sister and had sheltered her and had further demanded a ransom of Rs. 7 lakhs if the girl was to be released was ordered a bail of Rs. 10,000 and both parties were instructed to be freed on 2 personal bonds of Rs. 1 lakh by Gampaha Chief Magistrate Miss Kavindya Nanayakkara.
