Gale in Moratuwa this morning

Today morning on the 15th instant a strong gale had struck the Moratumulla area in Moratuwa. Owing to the gale many people in the area had been terribly frightened and were forced to stay

indoors until the gale subsided.

The stormy wind had persisted for about 15 minutes. Owing to the gale about 11 houses had been damaged according to reports from the disaster management centre in Colombo.

The assistant director of the disaster management centre, Pradeep Codipilly has stated that the officials of the regional office of the disaster management centre had visited the area to gauge the damages.

The authorities of the meteorological department had cautioned the public to expect some cyclone type winds. In the meantime more heavy rains are expected in the central hilly and the eastern province in the coming days.
