Udaya Gammanpila arrested

Udaya Gammanpila, leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya was taken into police custody this morning (18) at his home in Pagoda.

He was so arrested by the police in connection with a fraud amounting to several millions of rupees committed after preparing a false Attorney License concerning shares of a company of an Australian national. Mr. Gammanpila has been brought to the Police Special Investigation Unit for interrogation over a transaction pertaining to shares of Digital Nominees (Pvt) Ltd on April 18, 1997 which in fact had taken place in this manner 19 years ago. Even a few days before this Gammanpila has forwarded a petition to Supreme Courts about this manner of how he was to be taken into custody. It was stated in the petition that on the directions of Minister Patali Champika this false allegation had been launched for the necessity of arresting him and detaining him in jail.
