Dematagoda Chaminda shot in the stomach ....

while being taken in prison bus!

The third main suspect in the Bharatha Lakshman case Sirinayaka Pathiranage Chaminda Ravi Jayanath alias Dematagoda

Chaminda was being escorted back this afternoon in the prison bus after the suspect appeared in courts for the said case today when the bus was shot at and as a consequence was wounded and admitted to hospital.

The assailants who arrived in a Hybrid motor vehicle and a motor bicycle had blocked the prison bus somewhere near the Dematagoda Samantha cinema hall and then had fired at the bus and had even proceeded to get into the bus, firing towards the stomach region of Chaminda after which they had beat a retreat. Though it is understood that several assailants were injured because the prison officers too aimed gunshots at them, they had all fled from the scene. Ammunition and some bullets were seen strewn about the place.

After the Bharatha Lakshman incident Dematagoda Chaminda had fled to India and later when he was expelled from that country, when returning to Sri Lanka he was taken into custody at Katunayaka. Chaminda has been accused of several incidents of murder and underworld activities while the shooting incident which occured sometime back in Bloemendhal area is supposed to have been manipulated by him. Hospital sources say that Chaminda's condition is out of danger. He is still under treatment.
