Depriving Buddhist Monks to conduct ancient rituals is an attack to our culture
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had added that the new Buddhist act that is to be introduced by the government to the parliament directly is an attack to the identity of our culture. His view is that this is in terms of this new act is an attack on our culture and would cause a problem to maintain our Sambuddha Sasana.
Earlier there had been a suggestion to streamline laws but certain leaders of Nikayas had protested. According to the former President Bikkhus should be controlled by Bikkhus themselves.Through the law the robes cannot be removed from a Bikkhu.
from the ancient times villages had visited the temple to obtain treatment for ailments, to find the auspicious times for the new year and to read the horoscope etc.. The Bikkhus did not charge money.However if they wanted they could donate some money which was accepted.
