WHILE BREAST-FEEDING BABY
Some inconspicuous information about the incident of the lady who drove the BMW vehicle
and was involved in an exchange of words with police officers in Malambe some days back, creating a sensation across several media has been exposed.
The lady concerned, 38 year old Chamila Gayani Amerasingha is a mother of two children and the eldest is of school-going age while the other is 2 months old. The incident of exchange of words with 2 officers of the traffic police has taken place around 7 in the evening about 2 days before this. On that occasion she had been going home to Kaduwela accompanying her eldest daughter who had attended a tuition class in Malambe area and her husband and the youngest daughter had been in the vehicle. When the eldest daughter was in the company of her husband a short while before this incident happened, her youngest baby who showed the necessity of being breast fed was obliged by her. In that instance because of the hurry to go home she had hugged the baby from the left-hand side and had started breast-feeding the baby while steering the wheel with her right hand.
Because of this abnormal manner of driving, the Malambe Traffic Police had stopped the vehicle. But the lady concerned who was supposed to be of the natural disposition of being hot-tempered began to get involved in a continuous argument with the police officers. In the meantime the husband who was taking care of the 2 daughters ignored mediating in this issue. Whatever it is, she was taken into custody for the act of robbing a helmet of the police officers and their taking away their documents as well. She had taken steps to remove their belongings as tit-for-tat without paying attention or respect to the law for having taken her driving licence.
This incident and its scenes after being flashed across social websites a dialogue regarding the incident began to emerge and particular attention was focused on the point that the lady concerned had displayed her haughtiness or show off to the police since the vehicle she drove was a BMW. It was also revealed that although her permanent stay was at Kassapa Road, Colombo 5, she was the owner of a house in Kaduwela area.
She was taken into custody by Malambe Police. The accusation made against her to the courts by the Talangama Police was that she had done harm to State property, robbing and obstructing duties of the police. By this time she had been remanded until next 28th. The husband who gave permission for her to drive the vehicle was released on a bail of 1 lakh. In the process since the husband said that she was suffering from a mental ailment because of which she comported herself in that manner, the courts ordered that she be directed to a medical examination and a medical report be forwarded.
