Western Provincial council UPFA members divide as Hirunika and Prasanna factions

The members of the UPFA party in the western

provincial council had broken up into two factions and have had two separate media briefings at different venues on the 16th instant.

This morning the 16th Hirunika Premachandra, Malsha Kumaratunga, Ranjith Somawansa, Gamini Thilakasiri, Manjula Buddhadasa, Isuru Devapriya and Upali Gunaratna had with a group of 10 members had in the media briefing at the Battaramulla Royal Plaza hotel criticised the Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga group who support the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In the evening on the 16th instant the Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga’s faction comprising of Prasanna Ranatunga, Udaya Gammanpila, Gamini Kodikara, Sunil Jayamini, Roger Seneviratne, Piyal Nishantha, Jagath Angage and Samanmali Sakalasuriya and others has had a press briefing at the auditorium of the western provincial office. In the meeting they have said that they have the power in the western provincial council.
