Mahinda to contest from ‘chair’ symbol,  if not allowed from ‘betel’ symbol.

There are rumours spread that the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa would contest from the ‘chair’
symbol of the former Peoples’ united front party at the forthcoming general election if he is not allowed to contest from the usual ‘betel’ symbol of the united peoples’ freedom alliance.

Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had been the president of the Peoples’ united front party and the general secretary was the former Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne. Hence in this contest he would have no query to contest from his former party Peoples’ united front party.

There are also rumours a majority of his supporters and loyalists have suggested to him to come into the parliament from the National list of parliamentarians.

The former Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne had quipped that in the event former president Mahinda Rajapaksa has not had any talks on the issue that he is willing to contest the forthcoming general election from the ‘chair’ symbol of the former Peoples’ united front party.
