Will the ‘Small Election’ be held before the General Election?

There are speculations that the ‘Small Election’ to elect

members to Provincial councils, Pradeshiya Sabas and Municipal Councils Etc. may be announced before the announcing of the General Election. It is speculated so as all Provincial Councils, local government bodies and Municipal councils are to be dissolved on the 15th instant.

Accordingly 23 Municipal Councils 41 Provincial councils and 271 local government bodies in all 335 institutions are to be dissolved. They were however were to be dissolved on the 19th March. But they were allowed to function owing to a request made by the General Secretary of the SLFP and the National Organiser to the President. They were allowed to extend the periods by a period of one month.

However there had been reports published in several media that the period of local government bodies were extended by a period of one year.
