Once the 20th Amendment is passed the ‘Preferential Votes’ system to prevail
The National Executive Council has announced
that once the 20th Amendment to the constitution is passed, the former preferential voting system would continue for the forthcoming general election. The government sources have unanimously decided on this as there is insufficient time to set the new electoral reforms within a short period.
It is reported that to resolve the problems that are to emerge would take a substantial period and hence it would not be prudent to implement the new system.
But the members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party are adamant on the new electoral system to be implemented as there is a distinct advantage to them.
