Truth of police arrest of Badulla youth ....
for publishing posts in Facebook against President Maithripala
News about a youth from Badulla being arrested by
the police for having published Posts against President Maithripala Sirisena in the Facebook was flashed across a number of media during the past few days. It is now revealed that the truth behind those news items had been changed by certain media saying that it had been done so with a political motive. As a result of this news a dialogue was created that there is no freedom to express opposite views and that the present regime is in the process of erecting a barrier against that act. But what has happened is something to the contrary.
During the period when President held the portfolio of the Minister of Health one Anuradha Shyamali who was his Co-ordinating Officer had lodged an entry with the police saying that a certain individual had been engaged in using obscene expressions over the Facebook website in a manner that pressurized her mentally.
Subsequent to an investigation conducted by the Computer Crimes Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department it was found that the suspect involved was a resident of Badulla. Later he was taken into police custody. This incident was which caused the CID to file legal action at Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court against the defendant who was living in Badulla against him, under 2 charges. The CID thus filed action day before yesterday (30) against defendant Dissanayaka Mudiyanselage Sujith Nilantha living in Kalugalpitiya, Badulla.
Publishing the photograph of Pathirana Anuradha Shyamali Jayawickrema resident in Narahenpita over the Facebook website without her consent in the month of December 2014, inserting lewd expressions in that connection and inserting obscene sexual matters in a manner that causes mental pressure and also keeping in possession her photograph were the accusations levelled against him as appearing in the case register.
It was exposed in courts that the suspect had sent SMS messages to the petitioner with the aid of a Korean telephone number.
This case is to be called once again today (01) where relevant charges are expected to be read out. There is no connection regarding it to President Maithripala Sirisena.
