President's pardon ....

to girl who scribbled on Mirror Wall

Sentencing the girl who scribbled on Sigiriya Mirror Wall on last Valentine's Day to two years'
imprisonment raised a hue and cry sometime ago.

As she had committed this offence not knowing the gravity behind it, social network and various mass organizations had requested to reconsider granting her pardon, during the past few days. As such, Minister of Justice placed his signature yesterday on the document granting pardon by the President to the girl Sinnathamby Udeni. Sinnathamby Udeni  from Sittandi in Batticaloa who was an employee of a private factory had come with a crowd at her workplace to visit Sigiriya and had scribbled 'thank you Udeya' with the aid of her hair pin on the Sigiriya Mirror Wall in English Language, thus damaging the Mirror Wall.

Later Archaeology security officers had nabbed her and having handed her to Sigiriya Police she was produced before Dambulla Magistrate and District Judge Mr. Sanjeewa Ramyakumara last March 2nd and she was ordered a 2 year jail sentence as punishment by him.

The girl's relatives and  a number of other organisations had requested from the President asking her be pardoned while several newspapers too published various letters. As such, all those requests were directed to the Minister of Justice  Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha by the President and finally the Minister of Justice Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapaksha yesterday (01) had signed the letter for freedom.

Sinnathamby Udeni who had to go to jail on March 2nd was thus able to remove the punishment imposed on her within about a month.
