"Nim him sewwa" musician Nimal Mendis passes away 

How Nimal sang "Nim him sewwa" with Amaradewa

Celebrated musician Mr. Nimal Mendis passed away this
morning. At the time of his death he was 81 years old.

Mr. Nimal Mendis who has provided music to a number of films has contributed to creations such as "Nim him sewwa ma sasare, Ganga addara and Master Sir" which touched the hearts of his fans. Because of his ability to mix Western styles with local music, his creations remain permanently among the folk in this country.

He had been living in England for a period of over 30 years and among the films he was associated with were Ganga addara, Beddegama, Susima, Gehenu lamai, Ahasin polowata, Colamba sanniya, Godking and Duwata mawaka misa".

After pursuing his education at S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and Colombo Royal College, he proceeded for his higher education to England.

He was presented the OCIC Award in the year 1979 for his music in the film Ganga addara and he claimed Sarasaviya, President's Award and the like for his compositions in music during his career.
