The Sri Lanka team was able to defeat England and
claim an outstanding victory in the cricket match played today at Wellington in the World Cup Cricket Tournament.

It was in the over 47.2 in which Sri Lanka managed to clinch victory over England who got a total of 309. 

England who was successful in winning the toss decided to open the innings and though they did not display signs of moving towards a substantial total at the beginning, the 62 runs which Bell (49) collected for the first wicket partnership and the 60 runs collected by Root (121) and also the 98 run partnership collected for the fourth wicket became the successful run spree and thus enabled England amass a total of 309 for 6 wickets in the end. It is of special interest to note here that all 6 bowlers of Sri Lanka were able to take 1 wicket each.

Where the Sri Lankan team was concerned, Dilshan and Thirimanna built up a total of 100 runs between the two of them giving a fine start to their innings; however Dilshan lost his wicket for 44 offering a catch. Subsequently, Sangakkara who came to the middle managed to build up a massive total of 212 runs successfully together with Thirimanna. Thus both of them managed to take Sri Lanka towards victory and unbeaten together and Sangakkara scored 117 while Thirimanna struck 139. On the other hand Thirimanna became the youngest Sri Lankan player to score a century in a World Cup match. Sangakkara who made 117 in just 86 balls became the hero of the match.
