Kamal Addaraaarachchi and Kumar Sangakkara for General Election on UNP ticket

Reliable sources have confirmed that Sri Lankan popular film star Kamal Addaraarachchi and

Kumar Sangakkara, a cricketer in his own rights are to enter the field of politics and contest on the UNP ticket. They have received instructions to keep this a secret until the last moment.

Kamal Addaraarachchi had not been biased towards any particular political Party during the past election period but had later remarked that he is happy to embark on this field as an artiste. Kamal who had been engaged in business activities even before he became connected to the cinema had mentioned at a newspaper discussion in a dejected mood recently that a number of business ventures he was involved in recently had gone on the rocks. His closest associates had mentioned that he has a future through his capabilities in speaking more than his ability as an actor and singer considering his potential in presenting Reality programmes as well as having been an English teacher. They had even pushed him forward towards politics.

In this manner, it is understood that Kamal has thoughts of contesting the elections through the UNP  and since he already possesses sufficient popularity he is in a position to win any election seat and that he would be directed to a location which is a challenge to the UNP.

On the other hand where Kumar Sangakkara is concerned, Kumar Sangakkara's cricketing fans are not at all in favour of Kumar stepping into politics in a country such as Sri Lanka. However, reliable sources say that when he retires from cricket he is entertaining ideas of getting into politics following in the steps of Sachin Tendulkar of India.

In fact he had been having hopes of contesting future General Elections from the UNP ticket for many years before. He had voiced his opinion and protested over the media against the former Minister of Sports who represented the Kandy District the latter of whom continuously engaged in spiting him and it is understood that Kumar would be contesting on the UNP ticket from Kandy against this opponent of his.

In the meantime he is having intentions of securing a Sports portfolio or a position of a Deputy Minister and this attempt is not solely for the purpose of entering the corrupted political situation in this country but to serve the country by pooling in whatever knowledge he had gained and his experiences as well, sources close to him reveal. Even from his small days he had been an outstanding student in sports and Kumar had even been chosen to enter the Colombo University Law Faculty on his educational background.
