SLFP new Ministers take their oaths .....

and establishes National Government.

As revealed before this, political sources say that
the launching of UNP and SLFP as a National Government would take place today, Sunday at 2 in the afternoon.

Though it was reported that the number of UNP Ministers and the Ministers and Deputy Ministers appointed by SLFP are 15, information sources say that this number would turn out to be 11 and there is a possibility that further Ministers and Deputy Ministers are expected to join. The new National Government is a coalition family of both the UNP and SLFP, after it is established and both Parties would be present for the Cabinet meeting. The JVP, LSSP, MEP, JNP and a few minor Parties plus a few independent parliament members would function as the Opposition. The present government considers it essential that this change should be effected in order to approve certain Acts in the future. SLFP members of parliament have been sent invitations to be present at the President's Secretariat today 23rd afternoon for the swearing in procedures and for matters to be explained in relation to the National Government.

In the meantime, celebrations regarding the activity pertaining to the elevation of General Sarath Fonseka to the status of Field Marshal would take place this afternoon at 3.30 at the Ministry of Defense, Colombo. In the process, the new Ministers too would be joining in. The police say that traffic at Galle Face and the adjoining area would be closed to the public for a period of 2 hours for security reasons.
