Mervin who came for sworn in ceremony
flees amidst hooting!
A short while before the occasion when President Maithreepala Sirisena took oaths at the function held at Independence Square in Colombo this evening (9) around 6, there was some restlessness that occured when Minister Mervin Silva
came there with the purpose of attending the function, it was learned.
He however was not an invitee and therefore a stranger to the occasion and had remained stuck there for some minutes at the ceremony-grounds amidst sarcastic smiles and annoying looks of Maithreepala SLFP supporters and followers.
Subsequently, after a short time some young people who were near him had been found letting out hoots and it was understood that he had inquired something from them and at that very moment those around the place had begun to hoot continuously at him.
Finally, Minister Mervin Silva had beat a retreat from the place amidst the noise of hooting and annoyance of the crowd there.
Mediamen reported that as the hooting of these young men continued until he left the place, the onlookers found some amusement from this scene. Mervin had left the place even before the new President arrived and had not stayed back to witness the rest of the proceedings of the ceremony.
