According to Presidential Election results presently being broadcast as Presidential Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena has clinched a clear victory, Mr. Rajapaksha has said that he is prepared for a peaceful transfer of power. Therefore he had called Opposition Leader

Ranil Wickramasingha and after having a discussion with him had instructed him to prepare for future arrangements. Subsequently it is understood that President Mahinda Rajapaksha had left for Medamulana in Hambantota with his family from Araliya Gaha Mandiraya at about 6.30 this morning. This was confirmed by President's Co-ordinating Secretary to the media. He also said that the President thanked those who voted for him.

In the process it is reported that he had spoken to his rival candidate Maithreepala Sirisena over the phone at about 7 this morning and had wished him.It was also learned that he had detailed him as to how to proceed with activities in the future, very briefly. 

Opposition sources say that the swearing-in proceedings could take place this evening or tomorrow.

According to voting results already received, Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena has amassed close upon 2 lakhs y 7 in the morning and is well ahead and by the time the final results are being broadcast, political sources say that there could be a difference of 5 - 9 lakhs.
