The 60 Wattha resident who robbed local and foreign currency from the safe in Cricketer Mr. Aravinda de Silva sometime ago happens to be a registered criminal, it was revealed at police investigations.
This person who was popularly known as 'Magamaruwa' was the elder son of an underworld leader known as Sotthi Upali. He had been a customer of 3 Thai prostitutes, spending the money he had earned from this robbery, it was learned. He had enjoyed himself this way by visiting a posh Thai brothel centre in Colpetty area. He has admitted to Fort Police Officers that he had spent Rs. 25,000 on each Thai woman patronizing them by spending a total of Rs. 75,000 in all. This suspect, Mirihanalage Saman Kumarasiri alias 'Magamaruwa'  was known by that nickname because of his deftness in looting, it was revealed.

This person has been imprisoned on 25 instances for robbery and on each occasion he was later released, he had got back to his customary profession the very next day itself, he had admitted.

The suspect was arrested day before yesterday (18) in relation to the said robbery, by Fort Police.
