Popular actress- -debate between Maheshi & Ruwangi

Anybody can become popular actress by sending SMS and being familiar with big shots

It was Ruwanthi Ratnayaka who clinched the award for the Most Popular Actress at Tele-awards ceremony held recently. After she won this award, another well-known new actress, Maheshi Madhushanka had criticized this award without mentioning the name.


Maheshi has come out with this criticism at a newspaper discussion saying that if one could send SMS to oneself .... if she knows big shots .... then anybody could become the popular actress. In order to reply this criticism, Ruwanthi too had taken steps by participating at another newspaper discussion.

Shown below is the criticism Maheshi offered to Mawbima Newspaper.

* Truly speaking .... isn't Maheshi popular enough to win an award?
  That of course can be understood when one steps on to the road. Recently I attended a programme on a rupavahini channel. That day a lot of people living abroad also spoke. I know that fans love me a lot.

* Then where is it that you went wrong?
  Actually I don't understand where I went wrong. That should be asked from others. So .... one can send SMS to oneself and become the Most Popular Actress no.

* So Maheshi also can do that no.
  Why should I send SMS to myself and win awards? I in any case don't go by to get to know big shots.

* That means .... by getting to know big shots also .... can win awards?
  Definitely ... but those who work with by keeping that in mind .... their journey is short. But some contemporary artistes do one thing and say something else. I don't understand how something wrong is done and cover it up.

* Now like what you say .... is Maheshi a person who says what you do and do what you say?
  Definitely .... I tell anything straight. I have never kept any connection with a politician, producer. Even though I have no awards, I have work. I am in no hurry. I am making this journey slowly. But in certain places I have become disappointed. But I won't fall down.

* When one becomes an award-winner, it is a natural thing to get both a good and bad response, isn't it?
  When I got the Most Popular Actress Award .... everyone spoke about it in an optimistic way. All of them said that I was suitable enough to win that award. Only one new actress criticized it. 

* Who is that actress?
  Ruwangi Ratnayaka. She had not mentioned anywhere that I am not suitable for the Popular Actress Award. If she had made a statement directly .... I also could have mentioned her name through the media and given a reply. What she had stated was that at an award festival, in the aspect of the Most Popular Actress Award .... if one can send SMS to oneself .... knows big people, anyone can win the Popular Actress Award.

* What is Ruwanthi's opinion about that statement?
  The extent of knowledge she has about the importance of the Popular Actress Award can be understood by statements like this. According to what she says, if a person who plays just a very small role in one tele-drama has money enough to send SMS to oneself .... has personal connections .... can they get the Popular Award? In the same way .... some day if she herself wins this award .... will that award be won in this same way that she says?

* So then what is the reason for that actress to make an allegation like this?
  It is not possessing the capability and the ability to bear up another's victory.

* Did you have to face serious hurt because of her statement?
  If an efficient artiste of any sex or else a scholar of repute made a criticism like that, I would actually begin to think about it. Why should I get hurt about a statement made by someone who has no importance at all? I won't even take such people as anything above a toe nail of my leg.
