Policeman's body found on Wellawatta Beach

Mysterious dead body of Police Constable ....  
found in Wellawatta sea!

The dead body of a Police Constable who was attached to Wellawatta Police was mysteriously found floating on the coastal region of Wellawatta last afternoon (27).

A Navy patrol boat plying close to the coast there had spotted the dead body and on later investigations in the vicinity had come across a Denim trouser supposed to have been worn by the victim.
The deceased is Sunil Ariyaratna (27), a Police constable who was on duty at Wellawatta Police Station. He was a bachelor and a resident of Matale.

It is learned that the day before his demise had been to a restaurant with 2 Police Constables and had participated in a drinking session, subsequent to which he had visited the seaside and had some fun. The police suspect as to whether the reason for his death is a brawl that occured after an argument on that occasion.

The Denim trouser found on top of a rock close to the seaside happened to be the trouser worn by him.

It was revealed at the postmortem that this Police Constable had sustained blows on his head, allegedly caused by an assault. It was also discovered that he had said that he was leaving the barracks that day to have dinner out with 2 police friends. Investigating officers are taking steps to interrogate the two Police Constables in this connection.

The deceased Sunil Ariyaratna had joined the Police Department about 6 years ago.

Investigations over this mysterious death are underway.
