One million dollar racket not found anywhere in the world .... busted because of acolytes!
It was last week that 2 acolytes in a leading temple in Jaffna were taken into custody with a cash note of one million dollars. It was then that police investigations commenced about this transaction of a million dollar note, the latter of which is no longer in use in the world anywhere.
They had said that the genuine vale of these notes was several crores and had told various businessmen that those who procured them for many lakhs will not at all be a loss and had thus tried to sell the notes.
The American dollar notes which are currently in circulation are for the value of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100.
With the intention of discouraging fake use of cash notes over the value of 100 dollars is no longer printed in America. From about 7 decades back, those notes have not been printed in America.
During a law enforced at the time of the administration of American President Nixon in 1969, cash notes to the value of over 100 dollars (500, 1000, 10000, 1000000) were collected and its circulation was stopped.
Though in instances of purposes of exhibition and for souvenir value only notes of a value of over 100 dollars were printed, and as it had no monetary value, were not in circulation.
According to investigations conducted on the note found recently in Jaffna, the police have come to know that a racket whereby the million dollar cash note which had been prepared as an American souvenir presentation had been operating within this country.
It has also been found that persons who were totally ignorant of dollar notes have been thus trapped in this deception even now.
The police request the public not to become a prey to these racketeers as these notes have no monetary value. So far, 4 persons who are involved in this racket have been taken into custody and the Police Media Spokesman says that this million dollar cash note which has no monetary value at all had been sold at Rs. 2 lakhs within this country.
