Phone booths for Welikada prison

No necessity for secret mobiles ....  Now phones fixed at Prisons

Inmates in Prisons who were engaged in phone calls by keeping mobile phones in their person in secret so far, now are given the opportunity of making use of phones affixed inside the premises.

Eight such telephone cubicles have been opened in Welikade Prisons yesterday for this purpose. While phone calls taken in this connection are subjected to recordings, the callers too are videoed. The number of calls an inmate is permitted to take for a day is limited.

This opportunity was afforded as a result of a concept of the Minister of Prisons, Chandrasiri Gajadeera under the instructions of the Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. G.S. Withanage; and for the first time 8 cubicles have been erected at the Sri Lanka Prisons at a cost of 72 lakhs with the labour of the inmates.
