Girl missing for one month is found in Maharagama

Student missing at A/L last day ...
             emerges from Maharagama!

An incident is reported of a schoolgirl who was missing from her home on the last day of the A/L examination last August was found in an unknown rented out house in Maharagama area, after a lapse of one month!

Her houseowners complained to the police about the disappearance of this schoolgirl from Malabe because she had not returned home after sitting for her A/L examination on August 29th. However, she had deserted her home on her own wish and this schoolgirl who attended a school in Malabe instead of going back home after the examination was over on the final date had come to Maharagama. After putting up at a rented out place had on the following day, according to a set plan had also gone for a job. She had worked at a finished dress outlet.
After an investigation conducted by Mirihana Police across information about the connections she had with her friends and her phone calls, it was possible to find the rented house where she was staying and it was revealed that it was a boarding-house where such girls found accommodation.

She had acted in this manner under the instructions and assistance of a teacher of a well-known girls' school in Malabe where the said girl too had been studying.

Investigations on the ulterior motive of retaining the girl in this way has still not been disclosed; but suspicious factors have emerged that nude photos of the girl have been taken and she has been made use of for perverse activities about which further investigations are still proceeding, police said. The lady-teacher who had assisted the girl in abandoning her home is a 34 year old married mother with 2 children.

Though the student has said that the said teacher had asked her to come to Maharagama and had referred her to a ob in a finished dress outlet and had later found her lodging facilities in a boarding-house; but since the teacher has rejected all this, it has been difficult to proceed with police investigations.

However, it has been revealed by Mirihana Police Child and Women's Bureau that this teacher is responsible in making the student disappear like this from home for a period of a month according to information so far received by them. The student being unable to speak out regarding what was said and done during this period concerned has created suspicion in the minds of the police. The schoolgirl who so disappeared has been handed over to her mother. Incidentally, this student has one elder brother while her father is not among the living.

The police said that further inquiries are being conducted to ascertain whether the said teacher has directed the student for scandalous activities during this period of one month of the disappearance and the girl has been directed to the JMO of Colombo South Teaching Hospital,Kalubowila yesterday (7) for a medical examination.
