Construction Company files action .... against Sabeetha and husband

A case where popular actress Sabeetha Perera and her husband avoided payment of a sum of 18 lakhs was heard yesterday and the complainant in this instance is a construction company.

A construction company which had been erecting a construction for this couple was to be paid Rs. 18 lakhs through the bank and in the process the bank has been advised to withhold payment for which the construction company had filed legal action against Sabeetha Perera and her husband at Colombo Magistrate Court and Mr. Chandima Liyanage, Magistrate ordered the hearing to be postponed yesterday until the 15th of this month.

The Director of the company, Withanage Amal Asela Withana had filed action against popular film and teledrama actress Sabeetha Janaki Perera and her husband Don Upali Jayasingha and D.P. JayasinghaTours Transport Company yesterday in this manner.

It is stated in the complaint that he is the authorized Money Collector of the aforementioned construction company and that he was given a cheque to the value of Rs. 188,576.10 by the accused in lieu of payment of a construction carried out to completion at the office at Baseline Road, Colombo 9. He states that when he went to the bank to recover the cheque written by the accused, they had notified the bank that the bank had been instructed to withhold payment and that it had been done with an ulterior motive.

Action had been filed with courts on this occasion that avoiding payment is a punishable offence under the Recoveries of Money Act. When the case was taken up the Magistrate requested the petitioner's Attorney-at-Law to confirm names of the board of directors and furnish same to courts while further hearing was put off for the 15th of this month.
