Was Elpitiya student murdered .... over love affair issue?
This morning, a dead body of a girl, a student of the University of Aesthetic Studies was found cut and chopped in Elpitiya. police have reported that they found her dead body at about 6 in the morning at a lonely spot on the ground floor of a building being newly erected, close to the bus-stand in the town of Elpitiya. Blood stains were found all over her body which was cut and chopped with a weapon. She was dressed in an attire with which she set pot from home early in the morning to attend lectures at the university. Beside her dead body was her bag.
The deceased was Dimasha Gayani, a 22 year old student studying at the University of Aesthetic Studies in her second year. She was a resident of Niyagama area in Thalgaswila and had left home and gone to Elpitiya town with the hope of boarding a bus going to Colombo early in the morning around 3 o'clock.
She had been murdered after she had reached Elpitiya town.
The reason for the murder is still not known. However, a young man from the town who was supposed to have had a romance with her had been taken into custody and is being interrogated by the police.
Acting Magistrate and Attorey-at-Law Janaka Ruwanpura of Elpitiya of Magistrate courts issued orders to forward the dead body to JMO of Karapitiya Hospital to carry out the post mortem after the Magisterial examination.
Elpitiya police are conducting further investigations.
