Dimasha of Elpitiya .... killed by Commando soldier
The lover of Dimasha Gayani confessed to have killed the latter inside a building behind a bus stand in Elpitiya this morning. Dimasha was studying in the second year at the University of Aesthetic Studies in Colombo.
The murderer-lover is a Commando soldier attached to the Army.
As reported, the murder has taken place as a result of a conflict that had occured over an issue of a suspicion.
The assassin from the same town who had come to hear about the girl having a relationship with another in Colombo had developed a suspicion and a conflict has arisen between the two of them and he had phoned her the previous day and asked her to meet him in Elpitiya in he morning before she goes to Colombo. As such, they had met early morning in Elpitiya to discuss the issue. Both of them has had an exchange of words at a lonely spot in a building near the bus halt and on that occasion in a frenzy of sudden temper had pulled out a knife he had been hiding in his person and kept on stabbing the girl. As a result she had dropped down dead on the spot and since the incident took place in the early hours of the morning, nobody had been a witness to this tragedy.
The lover who committed the murder had immediately beat a retreat towards the town. When the incident came to be known to the people in the area the police who arrived at the scene began an inquiry near the dead body. The observed that the bag she was carrying contained her educational material and books. The police on suspicion had to take the lover into custody within an hour in the town of Elpitiya itself.
The suspect had come on holiday and had been living in Omantha area in Aviththawa Gulugama junction in Aviththawa and on being questioned had initially said that he knew nothing about the death of the girl concerned.
Whatever it is, the police who were vigilant about the suspicious nature of the behaviour of the suspect moving around Elpitiya town after this murder and have felt as if by instinct that he had committed this crime took him into custody and on interrogation he had admitted that he committed the murder. He had confessed that he stabbed the girl with a sharp knife on her neck.
The victim was a second year student of the University of Aesthetic Studies, Colombo aged 22 years and living in Talgaswila, Niyagama. The deceased Dimasha who had set off from home in the morning as early as 3 o'clock was to proceed to the university and the householders were not aware that she was to meet this lover before going to Colombo and had neither known anything about this relationship with the assassin.
