Fast bowlers can't become captains? I dismissed that theory
-- Malinga
Even though I and Mahela will leave ...
it's now proved that there's no problem -- Sanga
Sangakkara and Mahela expressed their views about the victory at the media discussion held after their win at the T20 World Cup yesterday.
Sangakkara expressed his ideas in the following manner: "I am specially very proud to have been fortunate to be able to represent Sri Lanka. Young players of the team have proved themselves about the future of our team ... that the team could carry forward the game even without me or Mahela".
Malinga made his comments this way: "Great captains like Kumar and Mahela came in to our side because o captains like Arjuna, Hashan and Sanath were there before this. I think I also received that experience. It was a great support when I came into this tournament. There were 4 or 5 captains in our team who had played for the World Cup and armed with much experience. When I was given the opportunity of handling the team, I thought of getting the support of all of them. It was because of that we were able to clinch the World Cup under my leadership after 1996.
In the same way there was an opinion that a fast bowler cannot get the captainship. But I think I did them justice from the bowling department. If the ability is there to get wickets ... they have the intelligence to do anything".
