Boiling water poured on 5 year old child's neck ....

An incident is reported from Alawathugoda area where scalding water had been poured on the neck region of a 5 year old child by his mother's younger sister because the child had passed stools in his pants. This child who was devoid of parental security has also been beaten on his hands and legs by the woman concerned.
While the mother of the child had been of an unsound frame of mind and had already left home as a result of a misunderstanding. Police say that the father too had deserted the family. This child and his 11 year old sister had been isolated with the stepmother and had been made to listen to the 5 year old's pathetic story. It was found by the police on investigations that oil had been applied on the wounds which resulted on the beatings
of the woman. It has been revealed that the act of pouring boiling water had taken place about a week back and the child had told the police that his mother's younger sister had poured boiling water on his body.
Since this child's father had left home and though the father of the child's father had taken him away to be brought up, preliminary investigations in this connection have revealed that once again the child had been taken into the custody of the mother's younger sister.
The mother of the child who was subjected to this tragedy had got married thrice and the child concerned happens to be from the third marriage and after the third husband had left, the mother had directed the child to her younger sister in order to seek employment abroad, police say.
However, later the boy's mother has been sent back to Sri Lanka because she was of unsound mind. It was after that that the child's mother has left the house in that mental condition. As such, it is said that this child ha been brought up under the care of the mother's younger sister.
The suspect told police that she has not poured boiling water on the child on purpose but that such an incident took place by mistake.
The victimised 5 year old child has been admitted to Akurana hospital and the stepmother has been taken into custody.
The child's mother who is alleged to have left home in an unstable mental condition.
Inquiries are being carried out under instructions of Alawathugoda police OIC,Mr. Nishantha Hettiarachchi to locate the mother.
